Below you find some words about practical aspects of the project. I will add new information as things evolve, so take a look from time to time.
The rides and activities are open to all. Trail Therapy has proven effective for mental health conditions like burn-out, mild to moderate depression or anxiety, and I believe that an inclusive and supportive group works very well for all participants. Take a look if this resonates with you.
Just get in touch by dropping an email! Before joining into a group, we can have a chat to clarify the individual needs and expectations.
You are asked to bring your own bike. If needed, you can get help for service and repair at Bike Kitchen Tromsø for free, and you can loan a bike at Turbo, also for free.
Everybody should ride safely on paved roads and in traffic situations. The level of offroad riding will be adapted to the lowest skill level in the group. The level will evolve naturally over time. Groups are set up with roughly similar skill level so that every participant can feel at home.
Similar to the riding skills, there is no hard requirement. Your bike should have tires that are not too narrow, like 40mm and above. As there are plenty of steep hills, good climbing gears help a lot, as well as the possibility to lower the saddle for descending. E-Bikes are welcome!
As with every activity, a certain level of risk is always involved. All participants are aware of that and of their own responsibility. At the beginning of each ride, a basic risk assessment is done, covering a range of criteria for riders, equipment and current conditions. A helmet is required.
The duration of a ride may vary from one hour to a half day or more, depending very much on the conditions. Partly, we use cycle track or roads to get to the trails. There are always enough breaks, and we experience nature and the connection and support in the group both while riding and in other activities, like mindfulness practices, meditation, and more.
